Frequently asked questions

How do I recover a deleted photo?

Photos you delete from Trash stay in Recently Deleted in the Photos app for 30 days.

  1. Open the Photos app and find Recently Deleted under Albums (or Collections). You may be asked for Face ID or your passcode.
  2. Select the photos and tap Recover.

Photos can't be recovered after 30 days or after you delete them from Recently Deleted. Items you've only marked for deletion can be restored from Trash in Chanchan.

Does swiping delete my photos?

No. Swiping only marks photos. A photo you swipe left goes to Trash inside Chanchan and stays in your library. It's only deleted when you tap Delete on the Trash screen and confirm in the iOS dialog.

I deleted photos, but I don't have more storage yet

Deleted photos stay in Recently Deleted in the Photos app for 30 days and keep using space until then. That's why Chanchan shows storage as “to be freed.” To free up space right away, delete them from Recently Deleted. Photos deleted there can't be recovered, so check first that there's nothing you want to keep.

If you use Optimize iPhone Storage with iCloud Photos, the originals live in iCloud and your iPhone only keeps smaller copies, so you may see more space freed in iCloud than on your device.

I only see some of my photos and albums are turned off

You've allowed access to selected photos only. In this mode you can sort only those photos, and albums aren't available.

  • To allow all photos: go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos > Chanchan and choose Full Access. You can also tap Allow Full Access in Settings inside Chanchan.
  • To change which photos are selected: tap Change Selected Photos in Chanchan's Settings.

Full Access isn't required. Keep, Mark for Deletion, and Later all work with selected photos.

A photo looks blurry or says it's downloading the original

If you use iCloud Photos and the original isn't on your device, Chanchan shows a lower-quality version first and displays progress while it downloads the original from iCloud. You can still decide while it downloads. If the download fails, check your connection and try again.

Photo analysis never downloads originals; it only uses small images already on your device. Photos without a local image are counted as not analyzable.

Similar photo groups or topic sessions are empty

Groups and topics only include photos that have been analyzed (Pro). Photos you're about to see are analyzed first. The rest continues in the background while your iPhone is charging, or when you tap Analyze All in Settings. Analysis pauses when the device is hot or in Low Power Mode.

I don't see album name suggestions

Album name suggestions only appear on devices that support Apple Intelligence with it turned on (Pro). The current version requires iOS 27 or later, and the button is hidden if names can't be suggested in your device's language.

I've reached today's limit

For free, you can make decisions on a set number of photos each day, and the count resets the next day. Later doesn't count, and undoing a decision gives it back. Reviewing and deleting from Trash is always available, whatever the limit. For unlimited sorting, choose Pro.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone, go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions, choose Chanchan Pro, and cancel. You can also get there from Chanchan's Settings screen.

  • To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. During a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you won't be charged.
  • After you cancel, Pro stays available until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Deleting the app doesn't cancel your subscription.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Pro isn't active on my new device (Restore Purchases)

Sign in with the Apple Account you used to buy, then tap Restore Purchases in Chanchan's Settings or on the purchase screen. The Lifetime purchase also works for family members through Family Sharing. If you see “No Purchases to Restore,” check whether you bought it with a different Apple Account.

I want to start sorting from scratch

Reset Decisions in Settings clears every decision, your undo history, and your progress, so all photos appear for sorting again. Photos in your library, albums, statistics and streaks, settings, and purchases are kept. This can't be undone, so you'll be asked to confirm twice.
